Community Animator
Rate: $25/hour
Positions: 2 roles (8 weeks each)
June 1 – July 24
June 29 – August 21
Location: Toronto (remote + on-site in neighbourhood laneways)
Role Overview
The Community Animator supports the delivery of Laneway coLabs, a community-led program that transforms underused laneways into vibrant public spaces. This is a highly people-facing role focused on outreach, engagement, and on-the-ground program delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct door-to-door outreach and build relationships with residents and laneway users
Support workshops, events, and community meetings (set-up, facilitation support, documentation)
Assist with surveys, contact capture, and gathering community input
Contribute to social media and communications (photos, short updates, content support)
Support implementation of small-scale projects (installations, clean-ups, murals, lighting, gardens, etc.)
Act as a consistent, welcoming presence in the laneway
What You’ll Bring
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable engaging with new people in a variety of settings
Organized, reliable, and able to work independently
Interest in community work, public space, or urban design
Assets:
Experience in facilitation and/or event coordination
Creative or design skills
Valid driver’s license
Additional Information
Work is a mix of remote coordination and on-site, outdoor community work
Evening and weekend work is required (schedules may run Tuesday–Saturday, some weeks)
Flexibility is essential; hours will not exceed 35 per week
Training and support will be provided
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, you must:
be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of their summer job
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job
