Community Animator 

Rate: $25/hour
Positions: 2 roles (8 weeks each)

  • June 1 – July 24

  • June 29 – August 21

Location: Toronto (remote + on-site in neighbourhood laneways)

Role Overview

The Community Animator supports the delivery of Laneway coLabs, a community-led program that transforms underused laneways into vibrant public spaces. This is a highly people-facing role focused on outreach, engagement, and on-the-ground program delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct door-to-door outreach and build relationships with residents and laneway users

  • Support workshops, events, and community meetings (set-up, facilitation support, documentation)

  • Assist with surveys, contact capture, and gathering community input

  • Contribute to social media and communications (photos, short updates, content support)

  • Support implementation of small-scale projects (installations, clean-ups, murals, lighting, gardens, etc.)

  • Act as a consistent, welcoming presence in the laneway

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Comfortable engaging with new people in a variety of settings

  • Organized, reliable, and able to work independently

  • Interest in community work, public space, or urban design

Assets:

  • Experience in facilitation and/or event coordination

  • Creative or design skills

  • Valid driver’s license

Additional Information

  • Work is a mix of remote coordination and on-site, outdoor community work

  • Evening and weekend work is required (schedules may run Tuesday–Saturday, some weeks)

  • Flexibility is essential; hours will not exceed 35 per week

  • Training and support will be provided

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of their summer job

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and

  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job
