Announcing 2025 Laneway coLabs sites!

We’re thrilled to announce the two neighbourhoods selected for this year’s Laneway coLabs: Taylor-Massey and Riverside.

This year, we received more than 30 inspiring applications from across Toronto. The response was overwhelming, and the decision was not easy. We’re so grateful to everyone who applied and shared their vision for laneway transformation.

🌳 Taylor-Massey

In this family-friendly neighbourhood, the laneway is a gathering space, informal playground, and route to Dentonia Park. But it’s also facing challenges: debris, disrepair, and a loss of tree canopy. The local team is ready to change that. Their vision? A vibrant, green laneway that builds resilience, inspires environmental action, and nurtures play and connection among neighbours of all ages. Located in a culturally diverse Neighbourhood Improvement Area, this project centres inclusivity, co-creation, and long-term stewardship.

🪴 Riverside

This well-loved laneway is a key pedestrian link connecting Queen Street East, Joel Weeks Park, and WoodGreen’s senior services. It's already used daily by families, seniors, and children from Rivertowne—and now, it’s about to become even more welcoming. Backed by local groups including the Riverside BIA, WoodGreen Community Services, and the Ralph Thornton Community Centre, the project honours the legacy of community volunteer Carol Sutton by turning the laneway into a safer, more vibrant space for everyone.

These communities will now begin a months-long co-design process, working with The Laneway Project to transform their laneways from overlooked infrastructure into beloved public spaces. Follow us on Instagram to see how this revitalization unfolds!

Goals and Objectives of the Program:

  • Bring neighbours together to collaborate on revitalizing their laneway.

  • Enhance an underused laneway through art, greening, accessibility, and inclusive design.

  • Improve neighbourhood stewardship of the laneway.

  • Gather data on the impact of community-led laneway revitalization.

  • Ensure long-term engagement by fostering resident ownership of the revitalized space.
