What we do

Mission

The Laneway Project transforms Toronto's laneways into vibrant, resilient public spaces. Through community partnerships, an innovative co-design process, and data-led advocacy, we create greener, safer, and more connected neighbourhoods — making our city healthier, more inclusive, and climate-ready.

Vision

To transform Toronto’s laneways into vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable public spaces that foster social connection, build climate resilience, and empower communities to shape the future of their neighbourhoods.

Values

Our work is guided by the following core principles:

Community Centered

Our projects are community-driven and led, designed to foster deeper connections among neighbours. By engaging community in every step, we create revitalized spaces that reflect local needs and build stronger, more vibrant communities.

Welcoming, Safe, and Inclusive Spaces

We work closely with residents and neighborhood groups to create spaces that are inviting and inclusive. By enhancing elements like lighting and other thoughtful design interventions, we transform areas into welcoming, safer environments where everyone feels comfortable and connected.

Climate Resilience

We prioritize climate resilience in our revitalizations by expanding the urban tree canopy, mitigating flooding through sustainable design, harvesting rainwater, and establishing pollinator gardens—all to create greener, more resilient neighborhoods.

Arts, Culture, and Economic Development

By partnering with local artists, we bring beauty and vitality to laneways through stunning murals. Our events and markets further enrich these spaces, supporting local economies and celebrating the unique culture of each community.
