Volunteer Opportunity: Drover Lane Garden Stewards

The Laneway Project is seeking 3–5 volunteer Garden Stewards to help maintain the new native planting beds along Drover Lane. This is a great opportunity for neighbours who enjoy gardening, want to spend more time outdoors, or are looking for a meaningful way to contribute to their community.

What You'll Do

As a Garden Steward, you will:

  • Water plants.

  • Remove weeds and invasive plants.

  • Keep the garden beds tidy and welcoming.

  • Monitor plant health and let us know if any issues arise.

  • Coordinate with the other volunteer stewards to share responsibilities.

  • Help foster pride and stewardship in the laneway.

No formal gardening experience is required. We'll provide an orientation, basic guidance, and ongoing support as needed.

Time Commitment

We are looking for a commitment from July 2026 to November 2026. Most months, volunteers can expect to contribute about 1–2 hours, with occasional additional watering during extended hot or dry weather. The schedule is flexible and shared among the volunteer team.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for people who are:

  • Reliable and able to make a seasonal commitment.

  • Comfortable working outdoors.

  • Interested in gardening, native plants, or community-building.

  • Excited to help care for a shared public space.

Residents living near Drover Lane in Cabbagetown or Regent Park are especially encouraged to apply, but anyone who can reliably care for the garden is welcome.

How to apply

Please send an email to info@thelanewayproject.ca with the subject line "Drover Lane Garden Steward" and include a brief note telling us:

  • Why you're interested in becoming a Garden Steward.

  • Which Toronto neighbourhood you live in.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received until all volunteer positions have been filled. We will contact all applicants to let them know the outcome.
